The Jones Cash Store was a one-room, wooden building located on Peacehaven Road. It was repurposed into an antique and craft shop and moved to Country Club road where it was renamed “The Country Store.”

In May 1976, the structure, complete with a non-functioning gas pump and wood stove, was donated by the Glass family to the City of Winston-Salem for the craft shop. The small building was relocated to its current location in South Fork Park facing Country Club Road in July 1976. And in October 1976, the store was named The Cricket’s Nest.

The Vision

D. Sue Drummond, Assistant to the Director of the Recreation and Parks Department of the City of Winston-Salem envisioned the shop. Mrs. Drummond watched her Mother lovingly create and share crochet items with the people in her life who were equally excited to receive them. But after a while, as all creatives learn, “you run out of family and friends to give things to.” Mrs. Drummond was sure there were others, like her Mom, who loved making crafts as well as individuals who would love to purchase handmade items.

Our Future

Through the years, over 4,700 members have offered beautiful, high-quality, handmade crafts to the community. In addition to the physical store, Cricket’s Nest sponsors multiple craft festivals throughout the year.
